USSC, Nike and 5 Meter Water Polo have teamed up with one of the greats of world water polo, World and Olympic gold medallist Tamas Marcz, to bring you an experience of a lifetime on the enchanting island of Malta in the Mediterranean.

Camp dates are from the 26th July to the 5th August. The camp will consist of no more than 22 participants as we want to make sure that each and every camper gets the personal attention he or she deserves. Campers will train each day at the Birzebbuga Pool in Pretty Bay, Birzebbuga and the hotel where campers will reside is called Water’s Edge. The hotel and pool is a 5 minute walk away from each other across the beach.

Camp co-ordinator Richard Micallef said “We are proud and excited to have been chosen by Nike and 5 Meter Water Polo as their first partners outside the US. The name Nike is a guarantee of excellence and we are geared up to provide such a service, both from the coaching and the organisational point of view. We have hosted campers from all over Europe in the past and we now look forward to welcoming young US water polo players to our country and our camp. Tamas is an outstanding coach and a dream to work with. His experience, love of the game and his winner’s mentality is bound to have a long lasting effect on our campers.”

Tamas Marcz

Directing camp this summer is Tamas Marcz.

This is a camp with a difference. Besides getting to train with one of the top coaches in Europe, campers get to enjoy the incredible attractions you can find in Malta – seven thousand year old buildings, a capital city that is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and St. John’s Cathedral, considered by many as the most beautiful church in the world. And then there is the snorkelling in crystal clear waters and the 600HP speedboat rides.

But first and foremost it’s about the water polo. This is an intense ten day programme in which campers cover all aspects of the game of water polo with a legend who has done it right at the very top. Besides the daily pool sessions, campers get to scrimmage with local water polo teams and watch top European pros in action in the Maltese Premier League.

Genai Kerr is a USA Water Polo Olympian, coach, mentor, and true ambassador of the sport.  Genai was a member of the United States Men's National Water Polo Team for 12 years and played in the 2004 Athens Olympics, 2003 & 2007 Pan American Gold Medal games, and multiple World Championships. He is one of the only athletes in history to compete internationally as a goalie and as a field player.  Most recently he was named MVP of the 2012 US Open after he helped Newport Water Polo Foundation win the national championship. Genai has coached at every level, from age group to Division 1 college programs. Over the last 15 years he has run hundreds of camps and impacted thousands of lives.

Surprisingly, Genai got involved in water polo by accident, following the whistles to what he thought was a basketball game and ended up at the pool. He excelled at both water polo and basketball at Coronado High School and received a water polo scholarship to UC Irvine to play under Coach Ted Newland.

Genai went on to become a NCAA All-American in 1998 and 1999 and was awarded Big West Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Year his senior year. Genai remains active in his community and has become a great role model for aspiring water polo players.  He has been a US Ambassador for the USADA (U.S. Antidoping Agency) since 2003 promoting clean sports for young athletes. He was a founding faculty member of the Sage Hill School where he was the Dean of Students, taught art and physical education, and started the aquatic programs. Genai has also created several community outreach programs to help mentor children in lower income households.  His passion for teaching children the ins-and-outs of the sport has never ceased, and his Nike 5Meter Water Polo Camps are second to none.
